l'Avenue Quilt Class
Class size is limited to 4 fully vaccinated and masked students.
My quilt is based on The Avenue by Louise Papas, but I used the Drunkards’ Path rulers I had, rather than
the templates that are in the pattern, so the fabric requirements listed here are for MY version, as are
the cutting and assembly instructions. You would notice the shape of the tree is slightly different from
the original, too.
You will need:
4” Drunkard’s Path (or a 5” if you already have one), a 3.5” square, and a 10.5” square. Rulers
are available at Thomas Sewing Center.
Your 6.5” x 18.5” (or 24.5”)—whichever one you have.
Rotary cutter with a good blade, pins, thread, machine. ½ ” Bias tape maker is optional, but
helpful.
Fabrics:
Bring an assortment of large scraps about the size of fat quarters in low volume neutrals (for the
back grounds) and brights.
NO PRE CLASS CUTTING IS NEEDED. We will do this in class.
In this class we will make ONE BLOCK. After a few practice curved pieces, we will make one tree block
(with a trunk) as a practice for the quilt. Later you will make 20 trees for your quilt that will be 44 x 60”.
You can of course make more trees and have a larger quilt.
The easiest way to make this quilt for the first time is to buy a couple bundles of Fat Quarters that
Alysson and I have curated for this project. That will give you lots of variety, and all the fabric you will
need to make at least20 trees as well as the sashing and binding.
This will be fun! I am looking forward to SAFE in person classes.
