Hocus Pocus Quilt - Lexington

This introductory class has two segments:
Part 1– Technique: Learning the Tucker Trimmer tool.
The first 3 hours of this class will focus on learning and using the Tucker Trimmer
to make precision half square triangles, combination units, and hourglass units.
These units are practice units and are great stash busters.
Part 2- Project: Hocus Pocus Quilt
Put your Tucker Trimmer into real life practice by using it to make a Hocus Pocus
Quilt. This quilt comes together like 'magic" and is easier to make than it looks.
That is where to 'hocus pocus' comes into play, but we cannot give away all the
secrets behind how to make this quilt. Register and see for yourself how simple
this quilt is to make. Better yet, it can be layout in several unique design patterns
giving you more options so that it feels like a new quilt pattern every time! You
will be amazed how quickly this one comes together!
After attending this class, the Tucker Trimmer will become your “go to” tool for squaring
blocks and perfectly centering hourglass units, combination blocks and more. You will
leave with the confidence you need so that you do not end up with another tool that sits
on a shelf collecting dust because you do not know how to use it. Plus, you leave
equipped with how to make a beautiful Hocus Pocus quilt!

□Studio 180 Design Tucker Trimmer III ®
□Quilter’s Magic Wand®* (Optional)
Basic Sewing Supplies:
□Sewing Machine with power cords
□Thread
□Machine Needles
□Snips or trimming scissors
□Seam ripper
Basic Quilting Supplies
□Rotary cutter with a sharp blade
□Marking Pencil (mechanical)
□Invisigrip (Optional – highly recommended)
□Best Press or light starch (Optional)
□6 1/2” by 24” ruler
Fabric Requirements:
Tucker Trimmer Technique Practice Units:
-Half Square Triangles
□(8) 5” squares (5 light/5 Medium or Dark of contrasting colors)
-Combination Units
□(12) 5 ½” squares (5 light/5 medium/5 dark of coordinating colors
-Quarter Square Units
□(8) 5 ½” squares (5 light/5 Medium in contrasting colors)
Note: Scrap fabrics are perfect for making practice blocks which can be saved and used in a scrappy style quilt.
Hocus Pocus Quilt:
□2 ¾ yards of Light
□2 ¾ yards of Medium and/or dark fabrics OR 10 Fat Quarters
□1 yard of Border fabric
□4 yards of Backing
□½ yard of Binding
Hocus Pocus Pre-Cutting Instructions:
□(40) 8 ½ squares of colored fabric
□(40) 8 ½ squares of background fabric
□(8) 3 ½” strips x wof
□(4) yards backing
□(8) 2 ¼ or 2 ½
Note: Strips are cut on the width of the fabric or wof based on 40” of usable fabric. If using Fat Quarters, cut (4) 8 ½” squares
from each Fat Quarter. This will leave a 5” x 18” strip that can be sub cut into (2) 2 ½” x 18” strips for a scrappy binding.
