Free Motion Quilting - Lexington

In this class, you will learn how to set your domestic sewing machine up to free motion quilt (FMQ), learn basic FMQ designs and practice your new skills! Some quilting knowledge would be helpful for this class, but you do not need any FMQ experience— Beginners are encouraged! Motifs to be taught include stipple, loops, L’s and E’s, wishbones, and more!
Requirements:
- Sewing machine and manual
- Free motion quilting foot (also known as a darning foot, hopping foot, open toe foot, or ruler foot) The FMQ foot must hover slightly above the quilt sandwich so you can “move” freely.
- 10-12in x 12in fabric sandwiches (top-batting-bottom)—I highly recommend solid colors for these and to use basting spray or fusible batting to hold them together (any batting is fine—this is just for practice)
- Thread/bobbin (contrasting thread color will show your stitches better but a color that blends will hide more mistakes)
- Extra Needle
- Scissors or Threat Snips
- Quilting Gloves ***optional, you can purchase these at Thomas Sewing Center in-store or online.
