Quilted Jacket - LEXINGTON
In this class you will learn to make a quilted jacket. You can choose to work with a completed quilt, or create your quilted fabric in the pattern sizes.
*Sign Ups for this class will close 1 week before the class begins, to allow for appropriate time to prepare for the first class.*
- Before Friday’s class, make a mock-up of your jacket pattern using the provided Easy Pattern Pellon 830 (additional yardage available at Thomas Sewing Center). Use pattern pieces for both front pieces, full back and one sleeve. Use a basting stitch. Stitch a line on the front to mark the center front of both left and right jacket fronts.
- Bring your pattern and mock-up to class. Remember to bring a very thin fleece or sweater to class, to compensate for batting thickness when you try on the mock- up.
- Bamboo batting will drape better than cotton batting; you will need a twin size batt for most sizes.
- If you are using fabric, pre-wash and dry all fabric; if using a quilt that has been previously washed, it is not necessary to pre-wash.
- Please bring your lunch or snacks.
Pattern Ease & Instructions are available at Thomas Sewing Center for pickup when you sign up for the class. Please pick up your packet at least 1 week before the first class.
Suggested Fabrics:
Main & Lining Fabrics: Light to mid-weight cottons, linens, chambrays, and blends work well for this jacket. Since the fabric will be doubled and quilted to a batting avoid anything too heavy as the jacket may become excessively stiff.
Batting: High quality batting in cotton, wool, bamboo, or a blend. Choose the thickness based on how warm you want your coat to be.
