Attic Window Quilt Class- LEXINGTON

In this class you will learn the art of cutting of your “window” (panel or yardage) to prepare it for sewing. We will explore multiple design options. In addition you will calculate the yardage necessary to make your windows.

Cream, very light gray, or other light color thread, and two wound bobbins to match

Snipping scissors

Straight pins

Small squaring ruler (4 ½” or 5 ½” or 6 ½” are good)

Sewing machine (with power cord and foot pedal)

Class will begin promptly at 10:30am. Please bring your lunch or snack, we will break for 30 minutes around noon. Class will finish around 3:30pm.

The attic window class will be taught in two parts. If you miss part one, you cannot join the group in part two.

  •   Part one morning: We will focus on the art of and the cutting of your “window” (panel or yardage) to prepare it for sewing. We will explore multiple design options. In addition you will calculate the yardage necessary to make your windows. Until you determine your design, it is impossible to estimate the yardage needed to complete your project.
  •   Part one afternoon: I will provide a small pre cut kit for you to make a mini Attic Window piece so you can experience the need for accuracy in your cutting, piecing and trimming, before you begin your own quilt. The mini kit will not come with borders. I won’t be offended if it becomes a throw away, or feel free to add borders and enjoy it as a mug rug or pot holder.

In the week between class one and class two you will shop your stash or in the stores for the additional fabric you will need to complete your project. This fabric should be cut (according to the plan made in part one morning class) and ready to sew when you come to the second class.

  •   Part two: We will spend 30 minutes reviewing the sewing instructions then get straight to work building your window quilt. We will “refresh” instructions each step of the way.

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: Please be comfortable with your sewing machine and sewing using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. You should also be comfortable using a rotary cutter, ruler & mat.
