Intro to Quilt Piecing - Greenup
Course Description:
This class is for students wanting to learn how to quilt or expand their existing quilting skills. The class objective is to learn quilting basics
- choosing fabrics measuring fabric, using a rotary cutter and mat, proper pinning and clipping, how to thread your sewing machine and wind a bobbin, understanding seam allowance and how to properly sew a ¼” seam, how to trim seam allowance using a ruler, learn basic quilting terminology, learn how to chain piece, how to properly use a square up ruler and basic sewing techniques applicable to quilt piecing.
Required Supplies:
- Sewing Machine with Accessories (thread, bobbins, 1/4” presser foot and standard zig zag presser foot)
o MACHINE MUST BE IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION
- Basic Sewing Supplies (thread, snips, small scissors, seam ripper, fine sewing pins, measuring tape, pincushion
- fabric (minimum of 2 pieces coordinating fabrics 1 yard each)
- paper and pencil/ pen for taking notes
- seam guide
- Fabric marking utensil (frixion pen, chalk pencil, etc.)
- Rotary Cutter with new 45mm Blade
- Cutting Mat with Grid (Not required for class, but a necessity for home)
Optional:
- Square up ruler 12.5x12.5
- Sewing Machine Seam Guide
- Masking or Painters Tape
Hands On Class Goals:
- Successfully Complete and Square Up a 9 Patch Block
- Successfully Complete a Pinwheel Block using Half Square Triangles
End of Class Outcome:
Upon completion of this course, students should be comfortable using basic sewing tools and have enough knowledge to begin piecing a quilt with techniques learned in the course outline.
